Why We Come and Why We Stay at
Lutheran Church of the Palms

It began in July 2012 when we arrived from Trinity Lutheran Seminary to begin my internship year at LCOP. We were greeted with smiles, hugs, and so much more - including a reception hosted by Bruce & Genie. Over the next year, we were welcomed into your homes, and your families... I remember the shrimp and grits. For the next 12 months, we were treated like family, and members were always willing to share their suggestions, etc., making me the pastor I am today. LCOP trained me to be a pastor, and I still remember how much you cared for me. You were there for my wife when she was dealing with her aging parents, offering her your support, love, and even a shoulder to cry on. When my time was finished, we dreaded leaving our new found "family." And that's what LCOP is - a FAMILY! God blessed us with you - and you are blessed by God.

I came to Lutheran Church of the Palms direct from Sweden from an ad looking for a church musician.  I came for a job, and stayed for the family.  I have been incredibly fortunate to serve in several wonderfully friendly, caring congregations but I have to say that Lutheran Church of the Palms stands out for many reasons.  The people are warm and yes, truly it is a family that gathers around to celebrate both the highs and lows of life with one another.  We struggle together, we nurture one another in faith, we give hope to one another in times of distress, we take joy in the successes of our members and give that shoulder to cry on when failures happen and when life throws us punches we don't expect and can't always handle on our own.

This congregation serves and gives generously of their resources and time to support the community, our nation and the world.  Service isn't just a "responsibility" we take seriously, it is a way of living out our faith every day.

The congregation is self-sufficient, not relying on its Pastors, but moving the congregation forward even during times of extended vacancies.  Truly the people of LCOP are the church of God in action.

We worship well and appreciate good music and art, all of the creative arts that bring joy and nurture our souls.

I stay at LCOP because it is a place not just of faith but of healing and wholeness for body, mind and spirit.
